Congratulations to BikeHouston,
League of American Bicyclists
Advocacy Organization of the Year!

from Bikeleague.org:

"This award goes to a bicycling and/or walking advocacy organization or club who, in the past year, made significant progress. Their leaders have worked tirelessly together to grow and strengthen their organization and fulfill their mission. The proof of their efforts is in the growth of their capacity, programs, membership and the victories they have achieved for biking and walking in their state/community. This award is about recognizing organizations that are inclusive, welcoming, and committed to growing bicycling."

This is a great piece of recognition, and we are happy to have the privilege of supporting BikeHouston for all that they do to create a more equitable landscape in the City of Houston for everyone that rides bicycles.

The Tour de Houston is Sunday, April 7th!

Despite some uncertainty at the beginning of the year, the Tour de Houston is set to take place the first Sunday of April! This yearly event is a charity ride benefitting the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's RE-Plant Houston Program. There are three routes available (posted below): 60mi, 40mi, and 20mi, and all three start and end at Discovery Green Park in Downtown Houston.

This ride is recommended for those partcipating in the MS150 at the end of the month!

Note: due to the Tour de Houston, BikeHouston's First Sunday ride will not happen this month.

New to the Aeroe Spider Rack Family: the Spider Pannier Rack

This rack is the base layer of your aeroe system and designed to be compatible with any brand’s pannier bags. With in-built top rails and a lower pannier catch - anti-sway finger, your panniers are kept secure enough for both weekday commutes and weekend trails.

Key features:

  • Make any eMTB or MTB bike commute or adventure-ready. Quick release Spider Pannier Rack fits any bike, no need for inbuilt mounts or fiddly axle mounting.
  • Carries anything you want it to. The rack is compatible with any brand of pannier.
  • Positioned the way you like it. Fits small and full suspension frames and works around dropper posts.
  • Made for work and play. Perfect for both eMTB commuters and tough MTB terrain lovers.
  • Fit and forget. Your gear and rack are super secure and stable, no matter the ride.
  • Mix n’ match your perfect combination. Swap out the pannier receiver deck for aeroe cradles and pods to suit the adventure ahead.
  • Looks as good as it functions (beautifully). Your MTB or eMTB still looks and functions as it should.

Feel the freedom of taking the long way home from your commute, or on the trails, with the peace of mind your cargo is safe no matter the bumps on the way.

The base rack is also compatible with all other aeroe accessories. Swap out your pannier receiver for a Spider Rear Cradle or Quick Mount Pod for a weekend ride, or transfer the rack between bikes, and you’re ready to ride your way.

Price: $169

Safe Street Infrastructure is in DANGER!

We have a new Mayoral administration in place, and John Whitmire has proven himself to not be an ally to mobility minded folks like ourselves. Medians added to Houston Avenue at the Washington intersection this past December are planned to be removed. City Councilman Mario Castillo of District H has been vocally against this change, and joined protestors recently to let the Mayor know that this is a terrible idea. If you are interested in getting involved and speaking out against this (and future) step in the wrong direction, reach out to BikeHouston today!

The newly redesigned 11th street in the Heights is also at risk! Check out this video made by concerned citizens speaking about why they feel that safety improvements like these are quality of life improvements that should not be taken away.

Help Create the White Oak Bayou Park!

From the Petition page:

"We are petitioning the city of Houston to formally designate the White Oak Greenway as a city park. This will preserve natural habitat for area wildlife, provide greenspace for public use, and prevent development on this land, including the expansion of freeways.

Without formal protection, this land is not protected and can be destroyed to make way for development. Currently TxDOT has plans to clear cut 28 acres of forest to construct a detention pond, raise the freeway by 90 ft., and place numerous elevated ramps over land that is currently used by wildlife and the public."

That's it for this round of updates, thanks for keeping up with us!
